Views are perspectives that you can use to view the data from different angles. You can compare a view with a window in a house. How much you will see through that window is given by its size, shape and location. Views work in a similar way. Swifting comes with several predefined views but you may modify existing views or create your own.

Predefined views

A new Domain contains a number of predefined Views. The most important are the To-Do lists. You may copy and customize any of the Views.

View types

There are several types of views to select from:

Working with views

Create new view

  1. Click on the New view button.
  2. Enter the name of the new view and click the OK button.
  3. A new view will be created containing all activities included in the Activity tree in the Plan tab. Now you need to customize your view and then save it.

Save view

There are three ways to save a view. Click the Save view button and select one of the options below:

  • Save this view – saves the current view.
  • Save with a new name – saves the existing view with a new name.
  • Save as a copy – creates a copy of the current view.

Delete view

To delete a view:

  1. Select the view using the Select view button.
  2. Click on the Delete button.
  3. Confirm by clicking the Yes button.

Share view

A view is always visible to the creator. To share a view with other users:

  1. Select the view you want to share using the Select view button.
  2. Click the Share button and select a resource to share the view with.

Set view type

You can select if the view shall be a report or a chart. Do like this to set the type:

  1. Select the view using the Select view button.
  2. Click on the Set view type button and select the view type.
  3. Save the view

Visible columns

You may show or hide columns in a view. A column shows detailed information about an activity, such as title, status or assigned to. To display or hide a column:

  1. Click on the small arrow next to the column title and select Columns. Select or deselect any number of columns.


You can sort the data in one column in a descending or ascending way. Just click on the small arrow next to the column title and select the sort order.


You can group the data in a view by clicking on the small arrow next to the column showing the field that you would like to group on and then selecting Group By This Field. Note that you can only group on one field at a time. If you would like to ungroup the data click on the small arrow next to any column title and tick off the Show in Groups option.

Set group value

If your view is grouped by a field, for example status, you can show additional information for each group. That is:

  • Count – shows the number of items per group
  • Summary of Work remaining
  • Summary of Work done
  • Summary of Value
  • Summary of Size
  • Summary of Cost remaining
  • Summary of Cost done

Select project

Select the project to display from the drop-down menu. Only activities that belongs to the selected project will be available in the View.


A filter reduces the number of activities included in a view. Compare it to a curtain that you put in your window. There are several simple filter options available in the Edit filter dialog. Change an option and press the Apply button to view the affect on the list of activities. Select the Close button when you are satisfied with your filter.

Import file

You may import a CSV file into the View. The imported activities will be inserted into the selected project. Details about the CSV format in Swifting.

Add new activity

A new activity will be inserted into the selected project. To add a new activity:

  1. Use the Select project menu to select the project to add a new activity to.
  2. Click on the New button and select the type of activity to create.
  3. An Activity dialog box is opened.
  4. Fill in the necessary information in the Activity dialog.
  5. Click the Save button.

Edit activity

Double-click a value in the grid to edit the value directly. You may also select a row and press the Edit button or Enter on the keyboard to open the Activity dialog. Use the Activity dialog to change any of the editable fields in an activity. Press the Save button to keep your changes or the Cancel button to close the dialog without saving the changes.

Delete activity

Select an activity in the report and click on the Delete button. Click Yes to delete the activity. Any sub-activities will also be removed.
