Estimating Activities

There are several fields that may be used when estimating activities in Swifting:

  • Work remaining
  • Work done
  • Value
  • Size

Work remaining

Work that remains in order to complete the activity. The Work remaining field in Swifting is normally specified in hours but you may decide to use another unit like; days or points. You may only enter work on activities without children. Work in parent activities are automatically summarized from its children.

Note that the Timer assumes that activities are estimated using hours. You will not be able to use the Timer when using another unit.

Work done

Work that has been performed on an activity. The Work done field in Swifting is normally specified in hours but you may decide to use another unit like; days or points. You may only enter work on activities without children. Work in parent activities are automatically summarized from its children.

Value

The business value of the activity. The Value field in Swifting can be specified in any unit like; points, dollars, hours. You may only enter a value to activities that represent a business value, like a Requirement or a User Story. Parent activities are automatically summarized from its children.

Size

The size in effort to complete an activity. The Size field in Swifting is normally specified in points but you may use any unit. A size 10 activity requires twice the amount of work to complete than a size 5 activity. You may only enter a size to some types of activities, like a Requirement or a User Story. Parent activities are automatically summarized from its children.
